But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little
to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler
in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”
Therefore He will give them up until the time when she who
is in labor has borne a child. Then the remainder of His brethren will
return to the sons of Israel. And He will arise and shepherd His
flock in the strength of the Lord, In the majesty of the name of the Lord His
God. And they will remain, because at that time He will be great to
the ends of the earth. This One will be our peace (Micah
5:2-5a NASB).
The second week of Advent is nearing a close;
before we blink twice Christmas will be here. The Christ, the Redeemer will
appear to those who are watching for His arrival. His arrival is a joyous
occasion, a Light to a dark world.
Four-hundred years of brass heavens created a desperation for a
Word from God…just one Word. The silence from God’s Throne was
deafening. But when
the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, and gave not only a word, but The Word
the world so desperately needed.
I love this verse in Micah,
the Word spoken to the tribe of Benjamin. He is too little among the tribes of
Israel, not worthy for the reception of the King. But the Lord says though you
are small, I shall send you the King of Israel. Some of you feel small, not
worthy for the King to dwell in you; but God says though you feel little and
unworthy—He shall come to you and dwell in you, redeem you. Bethlehem—you shall
receive the One from the beginning, and He will be our Peace. He has come for
all mankind.
This week we reflect on the peace
of God that He pours out in abundance with the gift of Jesus Christ. Jesus came
to pay the penalty for sin. He came to redeem the world. His coming grants
us peace with God forever. It cannot change. God is the
same yesterday, today, and forever. From the foundation of the world, the
Lamb was slain. The moment Adam and Eve fell in the garden, God’s redemption
plan to restore us commenced. The Old
Testament prophets spoke to Christ. Every book in the story of God’s
redemption plan, whispers the Name Jesus. This gives us great Peace, knowing
that God fulfilled all that He spoke; all that He promised. We have Peace too, knowing that now nothing can separate us from
the love of God. Nothing. You are no longer unworthy and small. Be at Peace, the
King is coming to you.
